Emily Kuyers, LLPC, believes that every person has inherent strengths and the capacity for growth, even during life's most difficult seasons. She believes that genuine connection, encouragement, and a sense of belonging create the foundation for meaningful healing and lasting change. Through a collaborative and authentic therapeutic relationship, Emily strives to help clients build insight, resilience, and confidence while creating a warm, welcoming environment where they feel seen, heard, and accepted. Emily works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, self-esteem, stress, grief, and life transitions. Her counseling approach is rooted in Adlerian therapy, emphasizing encouragement, connection, and belonging while helping clients recognize their strengths and gain insight into the patterns that shape their lives. She also draws from existential therapy, inviting clients to explore meaning, purpose, and authenticity, while integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed practices to meet each client's unique needs. Emily believes therapy is a collaborative process and works alongside clients to help them achieve their personal goals. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Grand Valley State University and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University. Prior to joining The Family Therapy Place, Emily worked extensively with children, adolescents, and families involved in the foster care system, refugee and immigrant youth, and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. These experiences strengthened her commitment to providing culturally responsive, compassionate care that honors each client's unique story, values, and lived experiences. Emily considers it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate challenges, foster resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.
